Bad experience, waste of money.

As a heavy coffee drinker, I was looking for an alternative (especially in the evening) for my regular cup of Joe!
After learning of the health benefits of Tartary buckwheat, I thought I’d give it a try. I AM DELIGHTED!
The seeds have a rich, roasted smell and give me the flavor profile of coffee without the added caffeine.
HOW TO PREPARE TIP:
My favorite way to prepare it is with 8-12 oz of water, 2 tsp tartary buckwheat and 2tsp organic fenugreek seeds with a little Manuka honey (for added health benefits)
I place the dried seeds in a cloth tea sachet and let steep for about 10 min and VIOLA! Yummy goodness indeed.

This was my first experience with buckwheat tea, but not with buckwheat (since I love a good dish of kasha varnishkas from time to time!). The taste was pleasant, but didn’t leave me dying to make it again. It was kind of fun being able to eat the groats that were leftover after making the tea, which I made using one of those wire mesh loose tea gadgets that have a handle and squeeze open. The groats seemed to be of good quality and fresh, as far as I could tell.
Unfortunately, the directions on the jar were very vague, indicating one should use an “appropriate” amount of the product, but giving no indication of what an “appropriate” amount might be per, say, a cup of water. Fortunately, someone else had reviewed this product previously and, between that and some googling, I was able to determine how much buckwheat to use.
The resulting flavor was lightly buckwheaty as one would expect. I didn’t notice any “calming” effect, behind what sipping any hot tea provides. So, this is a product I think one should buy for the flavor, not as an herbal remedy for something.
One nice thing was the free sample that came with the jars…however, there was no indication in English what it was! Fortunately, I was able to use my camera to translate it and it turned out be dried monkfruit pieces. I’m actually looking forward to trying that one, since I know that monkfruit is naturally sweet. (I haven’t decided whether to try it plain or in combination with another kind of tea…maybe green tea?

First of all, there is the brewing. It takes a lot more of this tea to brew your drink, otherwise you would just be drinking water with your average quantity.
Secondly, there is taste. This tea tastes very remotely like the original Buckwheat tea, but the taste is not the same. Same thing comes with the arome – you could almost feel none of the original scent.
Well, as usual, the cheap price forced the purchase. I regret it now.
Not recommended at all.

This takes me back to a tea I had in Chongqing, China.
For me – it reminds me of the taste of the flakes from Raisin Bran cereal.
Very nostalgic and pleasant tea. A great sipper
